Additional Info:
The 40008‑10P‑3M Cogent Bidentate C8™ 300 HPLC Column is a custom‑manufactured, wide‑pore reversed‑phase column engineered specifically for the analysis of macromolecules, including proteins, peptides, polysaccharides, and other high‑molecular‑weight analytes. Built on Cogent TYPE‑C™ silica hydride technology, this column provides excellent selectivity, fast equilibration, and extremely robust column lifetime compared with conventional 300 Å silica‑based C8 columns.
The stationary phase uses an aliphatic C8 hydrocarbon chain bonded via direct silicon–carbon bonds to a silica hydride surface. This design produces a phase that is more hydrophobic than traditional wide‑pore C8 columns, yet appropriately balanced for large biomolecules—providing stronger retention without the excessive adsorption often seen with C18. The 300 Å pore structure ensures efficient access and mass transfer for macromolecules, improving peak shape and resolution.
Unlike typical wide‑pore C8 materials, Bidentate C8™ 300 can retain compounds that often show weak or inconsistent retention on standard silica phases. The column can also retain select hydrophilic macromolecules, especially when operated in HILIC‑like modes, and is stable at very low pH (below pH 2) with no damage—greatly extending the usable method window.
The 4.6 mm ID × 100 mm length format is commonly selected when short (50 mm) wide‑pore columns do not provide sufficient resolution, but full long‑format columns are unnecessary. This configuration balances resolution and run time while remaining compatible with standard analytical flow rates.
Why Choose the 4.6 × 100 mm Bidentate C8™ 300 Format
This column is typically chosen when:
Analytes are large biomolecules requiring 300 Å pores
Standard wide‑pore C8 lacks retention or stability
Excessive adsorption on C18 wide‑pore phases must be avoided
Additional resolving power is needed beyond 50 mm formats
Low‑pH operation is required without column degradation
The combination of wide pores and TYPE‑C™ silica hydride chemistry provides selectivity and robustness that conventional wide‑pore silica columns cannot match.
